does anyone know how to tell the year by the serial #? i have a model ld-12a serial #j2838716 thanks

I find no model lD-12, Barh.

Could it be RD-12? Please tell us a bit more about the engine. Maybe we can figure it out.

Yep, whats its hp if ya know, what does it look like, how many cylinders, whats the color...

5 hp or so its marked. 2 cyl. motor is green lower unit white cover white prop. thanks

could it be a TD-15 i went thru all the letter model numbers and that's the only 5 hp i found. if it is, that would make it a 5hp 1941-42. but the description does not match.

post a picture of it, and recheck the number. sometimes i find it easier to see them at night with a flash light. look on the engine block for a quarter size plug with numbers on it.

the tag on the motor is the same serial #J2838716.the model #isLD-12A i double checked tried to download pics cant seem to get it to work says file is to big.

The LD-12 is a 1967 5hp. Basically the 6hp powerhead mounted to the direct drive 4hp lower unit as an economy motor... They closed up the reed stops a bit to give it the 5hp rating...

i think its 67, i got mmotor myself, seahorse johnson, cover says 9.9hp , 216cc, its long shaft i belive, on tag there is serial j2757042 and model LD-12a, but it does not look like 1967, i am just confused of year, according to model # its 5hp 1967, but it does not look old, its all white, and cover says 9.9, and else i found stamp on mounting indicating number 10.4.79, to me looks like year,
