Well guys here is a good one for ya. My father and I decided to replace the water pump, and thermostat due to the buzzer going off at idle the motor also did not have very strong water return. Now here is were it gets good Lol. I had to take the motor off the boat because I am also doing a custom paint job on it. So while the motor was off we decided to do the impellar. When I removed the motor and unhooked the linkage I made sure it was in neutral but while taking off the lower unit the linkage moved quite a bit while I was diconnecting the linkage rod going into the lower unit so I no longer know what gear it is in. Can anyone give me any help or service manual pictures on how to put this back together. I really cant believe I didnt pay more attention to how I did this plus it was a couple months ago before surgery on my shoulder so I am in a little trouble. The issues I have are;
1. does the linkage have to be in a certain gear during re assembly?
2. The linkage rod going down into the lower unit has a hook like piece on the end which came out of the lower unti how does that go back in which way does it face?
3. Should I scuff the inside of were the impeller goes with scotchbrite as there is some corrosion, and which way do I want to flex the impellar baleds when I put it in the housing if Im looking at it in my hand and looking at the impellar.
4. When I pulled down the lower unit there was a bushing up near the splines of the drive shaft that dosnt slide down what is the orientation of how it goes on.
I appreciate the long read should have waited till after surgery thought I would remember how everything went....Dumb If anyone can help or has a parts schematic for the lwer end that would help tremendously

Thank you so much for your help
Wes

Theres a sequence to putting it all back..not hard, just needed to be followed. I'd suggest a manual..cheap in the long run. On the pump, shiny as babies butt in the sun (clockwise looking down on the impeller too, and grease it, and back in neutral)..Ill post a pic on the linkage in a sec..

Back together in neutral..while you have the lower off, spin the prop ..driveshaft turns, just push down on the shift rod (takes pressure), and click up one notch
Coupler just slides onto the shift rod then when back in

Ok well I was just out there looking and way down inside the lower unit were the shift rod slides the pin the little piece fell off. I got it out but do not know how it goes back in. On the end of the shift rod the is an adjustable fork typ part that swings and a little horseshoe shaped piece sits on the rod/plunger that slides back and forth. I think I might have to suck it up and by a manual.
Thank you very much for your help.
Does anyone know of a site with parts schematics or free online service manuals?

Wait a minute..

Do you have all the guts out, and talking about the shift yoke? Way in the front of the gearcase?
Otherwise, I don't know what you are talking about here. And tell me what year 125..

I believe its a 1989 serial number is 2130 model number is 1254x8c. I only have the lower unit off but there are two shafts the drive shaft and a small one opposite side of the prop. The end that is way down in the lower unti has a swiveling hook type of fork that attaches to the plunger with this little horseshoe shaped piece with two pins that slide onto the swiveling fork. I know probably confusing the crap out of you.

Thanks

Oh and I do not have the guts out I just took it apart in neutral and when I slid the lower unit of it pulled that shift rod out of the lower unit and the little horseshoe shaped part fell into the bottom whch I was able to just tip over to get out.

Yup thats what I did I thought that was the oil drain. and the yoke fell off. Man so that pivot screw passes through the shift coupler to hold the shift rod down in the lower unit and hold the yoke on. Ok now I just have to figure out how to get the yoke back on. Does anyone know does the open end of the yoke slide down onto that shift shaft or up from the bottom?

Thank you very much for the pics and all your help I had no idea how it was in there cause I drained the oil before dropping the lower unti so when I dropped the LU it was all apart.

Re: 125Hp Force Water pump imp Install???

look at that other (second) pic I posted. See where the "Jaws".."Post" are. Thats the FIRST thing done rebuilding a 125 L/U
You wiggle the shaft in with the yoke slipped on the shift arm..(the guts are all removed).you lower the coupler down, and after a million tries, it finally will sit on both the posts, and you put the Pivot screw in.. front gear holds the shaft in place, then reassembly.
NOW, if (well, not if, probably did) the coupler has fallen off the yoke, well, the yoke now will just rotate out of alignment, and now the whole thing must come apart...

Re: 125Hp Force Water pump imp Install???

Man thanks for all the help im kickin myself right now because I have been a motorcycle mechanic for 10 years and have always preached to people if you dont know what your up against get a manual or have a shop do it but my father was all gung hoe and now Im in a lot of crap. Ill have to take it all apart cause the coupler did come of and has spun out of alignment for sure. If you could e-mail me the pages for doing it that would be great but if its alot than Ill just suck it up and buy a manual. How do I know what year the motor is I have the serial and model numbers but it dosnt say what the production date is?
Thank you very much for all your help you have been awesome hopefully I can get this squared away without too much stress as im really pi$$ed right now lol.

My seloc Manual Force Outboard..84-93 covers it..Its a mess of pages..
I broke a driveshaft and had mine apart a few years back.
When it comes apart, watch any tiny thin spacers. You can just keep whats there, and not worry about any spacing on the shafts.
You will need some kits.
Long as ya got it down, do the water pump too
These are all Quicksilver (Merc) part numbers. And parts have went up in price, I'm sure
Pump...FK1069 ($70)
Crush Ring...F523961 ($15)
Seal kit..FK1063-2 ($53)
MANUAL $35?
Thats one expensive screw..

WHEW!

Glad I read all of this first. I am going to replace the impeller in mine. Now I do have one of the manuals on CD I bought from ebay, but I do not remember seeing anything like that being a pivot screw.

I thought it was most likely the drain plug as well. I will definately go through the pages of that manual real carefully before I pop the lower unit off.

I can't remember if the you will need that crush washer or not..sits inside the upper DS housing...along with any shims, which I think needs to be pulled out..just can't remember, and the manual is a little vague in this if you just need to get in there and put the pivot mess back right. You will know more when it comes apart.. (and I meant "shims", not spacers... too)
Anyway, the cruch washer is NOT reusable, need new, but just use the original shims...skip any Backlash adjustment..

I detest CD Manuals..I need pages in my hand. The drain screw is in front of the nose cone at the almost bottom, and its a tiny Hex Head Allen screw. Don't feel bad. When I got my force, I pulled the Pivot screw out a bit too, but was cautious about it, and when I saw it wasn't a simple plug, it went right back it (whew!). But ended up snapping a DS anyway, so I had to pull it down eventually anyway. Can't remember when I got a Manual, but it should have been the first thing...I've learned a lot since then..
