I now have my gas can pressurized-new gasket-and the motor runs after being stored for a while. When we put the "muff" on water came out the bottom. When we put it in a barrel, water boiled up. Nothing, other than heat/exhaust came out the hole nearer the motor. Is anything else supposed to come out that hole? The shaft area got really hot to the touch.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Dont run the engine! The water pump is not pumping water. Water and exhaust should come out the holes half way up the lower section. If no water DO NOT run the engine as you will burn it up. The exhaust manifold should be warm to the touch but not too hot. To put a new impeller in you will have to remove the powerhead (7 screws). I have a '59 also and it's not a hard job but essential.

Thanks for the timely answer. I get confused because some places that I read it says that there won't be water coming out of the upper hole until it gets warmed up. Replacing the impeller is a do it yourself job?

What kind of "muff" do you have? That motor won't work on what is generally referred to as muffs. There used to be a Tempo "Flushette" for your motor but they are about rare as chicken fangs.

There should be water discharge any time the motor is running. That stuff about having to wait for the thermostat to open is a crock....don't believe it.

The water pump has been replaced by many a novice. But it is an intimidating job for many. Depends on you comfort level. Don't ignore that carbon seal assembly under the powerhead if you do it yourself. You must put a new 303345 gasket and 303347 o-ring on the seal or it will leak water into the powerhead and destroy it over time.

Thanks for the confirmation. I guess my hope for a boat ride today is waning. Can I get the parts at NAPA?
