ignition trouble

I put a new console on my pontoon and now the only way to turn the engine off is to push the key to kill the engine before shutting it off. It used to shut-off when I turned the key to the "off" position. I checked the wiring diagrams I found on other postings and it appears to be wired right. Any ideas?

Re: ignition trouble

If you push the key in you are enabling the electic choke, that,s why it kills the engine. It has nothing to do with electrically turning off your engine. It has to be in your key switch some where.

Re: ignition trouble

If you disconnected the large harness plug at the engine, try disconnecting and reconnecting it again. If you just removed the ignition switch from the console and then reassembled it, check the switch. You probably broke off one of the wires on the "M" terminals.

Re: ignition trouble

There should be a black ground wire on the ignition switch and a black w/white or yellow trace

Ign OFF connects these two to ground and kill the ignition system

a problem /internal break in either of these and the motor won't kill

Re: ignition trouble

this is what I was told and it worked: the 2 black wires go to M, the black/yellow goes to the other M, that will shut it off, yellow/black goes to C, yellow/red goes to S, red to B, purple to I this worked on mine hope it helps you
