Evinrude overheating problem

I have a 1989 evinrude that sat for 10 years, I cleaned the carbs, put a new control box and new control cables. Motor runs great but after running for a few minutes the overheat buzzer goes off. If I turn the motor off and right back on it takes the buzzer a few more minutes to go off again. The water is pumping very good and the motor dosent seem to be getting too hot. I can't figure out why the buzzer won't come right back on after turning it off and on again, it waits about two or three minutes between each time I turn it on and off. Any help would be much apreciated. Ready to Fish!

A motor sitting that long should also have the impeller replaced, L/U oil changed and thermostat(s) replaced. Even tho it appears to be pumping water good, the impeller is bound to be dry rotted from sitting that long.

Touch the head, if you can keep your hand on it for a few seconds it might not be overheating. I would not keep startoing it until I knew so you are not doing damage. You say it is pumping water, I'm assuming you mean because it is showing water at the pisser. It could be getting hot because of a clogg and still pump water.

It seems to be pumping strong the faster the motor runs the harder the water runs out the pisser. I've changed the L/U oil. I don't understand why the buzzer won't go off imedetly afer restsarting if the motor is really overheating it waits a couple of mitutes between each restart.

Heat is being transferred to and from the area of the thermal switch to the surrounding metal and/or water. A pilot once told me that they are taught to always believe your instruments. #$%&@* altimeter is busted, I can't be that low.....as you crash into the mountaintop.

the pee stream is only an indicator the impeller is pumping water, it is not an indicator that the thermostat or stats, are opening an cooling the engine. which motor is it buy the way, there are a lot of 1989 motors.
