Hello - newbie to this site; love boats, don't know diddly about the motor parts; my other half has a Seaswirl with an "Evinrude big twin" motor, outside of case says "35 Lark"; I want to get a service manual for it as a surprise, but don't know the year of the motor, and when I took the cover off to look for a serial or #, my brain just went ?????????????? So, at the risk of sounding really dumb, which probably happened in the first five words, where do I find the serial / #?
Thank for any help:eek:

Ok, I found a serial number on a plate just above the engine mount. It is 07326; there was nothing else I could see other than Evinrude, made in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. How do I determine the year etc.? Thanks! (By "a manual is a cheap investment".... is that a good thing or disaster waiting to happen?

Similar problem: got an Evinrude 9.9 hp , 4 stroke, I think is a 1998 model year and have many problems w/ it, need to check valves and maybe head, any used repair manuals out there to buy? heard they are cheap investments with which to learn more, got one? tell gussails at yahoo where to get one used and for how much, thanks.

zoolady, that is the serial number. The model is immediatly preceeding that one.

I am assuming you have a 1957 or 1958 or 1959. The '57 Lark has a metal hood that flips up on one side. The '58 Lark has a metal hood that lifts off in one piece. The '59 Lark has a fiberglass hood that lifts off in one piece. Sound familiar?

F R, Yes, it does sound familiar; from you are saying it looks like a '59. The little plate that had the serial # on it is just in front of and below the motor's front bottom casing, and cannot see because of the casing (yet) if the mo_el # is on it or not. Thanks for the id info :)
