Re: rust

String, can't tell where you are, do you have a winter storage situation? If so, that's when most of the rusting in the block & heads occurs, if you just drain the water and then forget it. Much better to drain the water, put all plugs & hoses back on, then pump 50/50 water & antifreeze into it and leave it in there til next boating season. Then drain & save it, don't flush the anti freeze into a lake.
If you're trying to get the accumulated rust out of the block, there are caustic solutions to do that, (engine rebuild shops use it) but why do you feel you need to?

Re: rust

Are you sure it's rust that you want to get rid of? Most Raw water systems suffer from Calcium deposits not rust!!

Re: rust

Replace the rust and scale will just give way to fresh metal to do the same..(manifolds go every 4 years in salt--6-10 fresh...blocks...don't worry about'em)
