I have a 9.9 hooked up to the AccuMix Tank kit (to mix the oil). It worked fine for many years, but this year I cant get my motor to take gas. I know its the AccuMix system, because If I hook up the other hose (from other motor) the outboard runs fine, but as soon as switch hoses to the accuMix, It runs out of gas and dies. Has anyone else had this happen with the AccuMix?

Accumix tanks were from the early to mid 80's. They have 2 chambers...1 for fuel another for oil. The fuel & oil is supposed to drawn simultaneously in the correct mixture ratio...."IF FUNTIONING PROPERLY!!!" Get rid of it!!! Get yourself a new reliable tank & mix your own fuel/oil!

Also from reliable sources the smaller fuel pumps weren't capable of drawing correct fuel/oil mix from the Accumix tanks. There were actually pump upgrade kits for the smaller units.

I would never trust anything like that.

Re: AccuMix Tank kit

We have had the system since '95. It actually has worked very well (until now) and kept the motor in outstanding shape. The big advantage to it is that our 40" is oil injection, so instead of having 1 tank with mixed gas and 1 tank without, we can fill up both tanks and switch them (especially important in Canada - where I may use 8 gallons of gas on the big motor). I thought this system was fairly standard until I read some of the replys above.

you got lucky with yours, they were a flop, and out of production. be safe and just premix. if you need the extra gas for the big motor the extra oil won't hurt it. may foul a plug, but won't hurt the motor. also one on the plastic tank companies is making a 12 gallon tank that takes up less room than 2 6 gallon tanks. you could use a 12 gallon, and 3 gallon.
