93 evinrude starts in gear

I recently replaced a bad ignition switch on my 60 hp evinrude (93 bass tracker) and I thought I followed the wiring diagram as close as I could, although my wires didn't exactly match the diagram. The boat did work next time I took it out, but it would start in gear and also seem unusually cold natured (it took me forever to get it started). This is my first boat so be patient I'm trying to figure out where I messed up the wiring.
Thanks

I have a reply you may not want to hear. The fix itself shouldn't take long, wating for your repair manual might take a little bit. OMC repair manual shows exactly what goes where. Also sounds to me like you might have bypassed the push button choke switch. Did you replace your switch with an aftermarket switch? My OMC replacement is clearly labeled. Fair warning, the guy who owned my 35 b4 me wired the ignition switch dead wrong and smoked my choke solenoid. He put the accessory hot purple leg of the switch to the purple with white trace choke solenoid wire. Made a mess of it. Took awhile to figure out what he did. Lots of tracing, unwrapping harness, etc. What a pain. Good luck. I'll tell ya up front, I'm no expert. But it seems to me it would certainly be in your best interest to invest in an OMC repair manual. Worth its weight in gold as relates to doing it right the first time A seasoned senior hand here pretty much says the same thing in a different way in his signature. Good luck. KR
