I have a brand new(2007) 60hp merc 4 stroke on my pontoon. I'm talking 3 days old. Motor runs great until you reach 5200 rpms, then the motor start to stumble/shake and the warning buzzer trips with a continous tone. It does not matter if I am in gear and moving or just in neutral. It acts up at exactly 5200 RPMs. Anyone run across this? It is getting hauled back to the dealer tomorrow, but I thought I would poke around and see what I could learn.

Thanks!

Just thinking outloud...what is the prop pitch? Is the throttle at or near 100% when you hit 5,200?

Have you broken it in correctly following the break in instructions in the manual?? For only 3 days old it does not sound like you have completed the break in procedure. I have the same outboard as you but it is a 2006. I broke it in correctly and I can run it at 6000 rpm with no alarm. That is the max rpm for the motor. I then changed props so the max rpm achieved was 5800.
