Water Pump Merc500?

Hi,
I recently inherited Merc500 ? 1968 (Ser# 2480623). Looks like new. Mint condition.
Compression 125, 120, 80, 130. A lot of problems with wiring, so after I fix them (electric is the only part that I know what I?m doing) and I started the motor I was so exited that I went to the lake without more tests.
I brought Charley Brown with me , and in the middle of a good size lake I figured out that the motor is not peeing, and is hot like hell (never been there, but read somewhere that is hot).
After coming back from the lake I tried to fix the problem, but I honestly don?t know ? what the problem is.
I guess it is the water pump, but that?s all.
I think I found the ?pee exit? ? small hole right beneath the cover. It was full of dust so I cleaned it. But still no luck. In 200 km radius the is only one merc dealer and they don?t have any service manuals. Online to my place (North Quebec) orders takes 2-3 weeks.

Would you guys help me with some instructions and tricks? If yes ? PLEASE simple English Some pictures will be really appreciated

http://forums.iboats.com/search.php?searchid=470286 try that, you will find lots of info ad some directions in these posts for doing impeller. your best to get a waterpump kit and not just the impeller, then you can replace old gaskets and the plate inside.

sorry, worked ok for me when i tested. goto search, hit advanced search, search for impeller, title only, and on the right select mercury outboard. hit search, there's a lot of explanations and tips without typing it all out again
