Re: cobra 2.3

But not for long? On GM motors I find that most automotive aftermarket points sets don't hold-up to sustained high RPMs. Mostly with them, it's the cheap plastic used in the rubbing blocks. They wear down quickly and before you know it the points gap closes down to nothing. I don't know if that's the same result with that Ford motor, but I'd think the same aftermarket parts manufacturer makes all of their products with the same base materials.

I had a 1986 3.0 GM and put the electronic ign kit on and got rid of the points. It made it easiler to start and ran better. I forget what brand I used but there is several. You might have to to rewire the shift time delay box and install a new coil.

Re: cobra 2.3

Hopefully you have checked your other post, but if not. The iginition system on the 89 2.3 Cobra is not the same as the automotive system. To even get a wire set that is compatible you have to look at a Ford Mustang II or Pinto set from 1976 or earlier. And despite what the catalogs claim, the aftermarket stuff will not fit. I just went through all of this this past spring, it took the marina I took my 2.3 to a couple of weeks and 3 different attempts with aftermarket points to finally order OEM's from BRP.

And as far as an Electronic Ignition kit, I have done a lot of searching and have not found one yet for the 2.3 Ford. If anyone has found one I would like to hear from them.

On my 88 2.3 cobra, I got my tune up kit from boatfix. I see they also have them here on Iboats. I used the Sierra 18-5251 kit and it fit perfect. There's also the 18-5283 kit that includes the cap. The BRP # is 0173619. I can't imagine the 89 is much different.

I found that a 1974 Mustang 2.3 Dist Fix and works
