ignition switch merc 150

It is a 1996 150 xl. The key was lost and my son is trying to replace the switch with a new switch MP 39760. We have started the motor but not all seemed right, it just started when barely turning the key.

Do we have the right switch?

Can someone give us the correct color to letter code?

Why didn't you go to a dealer and buy a key for the old switch, The switch you bought is wired up wrong, most switches come with a wiring dia. as far as if it's the right switch or not, go to the place you bought the switch and ck the listing. I hope it is as electrical items a usally not returnable
