Johnson lower unit gears

Does anybody know of the cheapest place to buy a gear set for my
86 GT150. I have found them for 396.00 just haven't been able to find out if their available or not. Tried ebay, guy had a set, said it fits all V6 from 1978-2006 with the large O type gear housing. But when i ask him about them and gave him the model number, he said they wouldn't fit. I can't find out why. Can anybody tell me?
