I've heard of them. There are some still around. My experience with them is nil. But have worked on some 40hp twins. Long time ago, that is.

You probaly should have put this under Other Outboards. I have heard good things about the MCculloch. I have never owned one but know of people who have said they were tough old outboards. As with others, MCculloch is no longer made and parts are available but not in abundance like say Johnson or Mercury. How long parts will be available will problay depend on how long the old ones stay around with people repairing them. You didn't mention if you were buying just the motor or the whole boat. If your buying the whole rig and the price is right I would buy it and check into seeing how much parts are. If too pricey sell the motor on E-Bay and purchase another motor.

I'm looking at buying the boat, motor, trailor, and they will throw in a 1970 evinrude 40hp selectric shift outboard with controlers and wiring harness. All for $150.

I have not seen any pics of the boat, but it seems to good to be true.

I would consider any motors of the vintage you're talking about nearly valueless BC of parts and service issues. The boat may be a different deal, however, depending on condition. Don't be too impressed someone is "throwing in" a 35 year old motor, BC it's not worth much, unless it's pristine and then not all that much (motor collectors are a really cheap lot).

Back in the mid '60 time frame, McCullogh took their 40 hp twin, added a 3rd cylinder and came out with their 60 hp. Later they upgraded it to 75 hp. Both were sleek and seemed to be well thought out. Have no idea as to how they performed. For some reason they weren't all that popular. Have no idea as to why. I had a 22 hp twin of theirs at that time of a 13' boat. I took it 10 miles offshore to Ship and Cat island south of Biloxi/Gulfport, MS, numerous times. Never let me down. It was no speed demon on that rig, loaded to fish out there , but it was all I could afford at the time.

There are www sites with pics and other things around.

I'll take that valueless 40 Selectric with controls and wiring harness off your hands.

Hey Frank, the shipping alone would be more than the motor. BUT, if you meet me in Garden City next time your there, we'll talk.

Around here a trailer is worth more than $150 so I'd sure take the package. Then check the condition and keep or part it out. Those electric lower units can be worth a fair bit to the right person. Sell it on Ebay!

In 58-60 McCulloch was getting 60 hp out of 63.cubes.Evinrude 50 hp out of 70 cubes in 63-65 McCulloch got 75 hp out of 63 cubes.in 63 Evinrude was getting 75 out of 89 cubes.
The McCullochs were not without teething problems.I had a number of factory bulletins Involving plug types heat ranges detonation with suggested cures and updates.

I owned one in the 60s. As hard as I tried to kill it out of ignorance, it took a lickin and kept on trippin ...

I just found out it is a 1965 75hp. Anybody know where to find a pic of one like it? I don't have time to go look at it yet.

Here's a pic of my Scott boat with McCulloch 75hp Flying Scott. She's almost ready for the water. But I gotta hurry. Been restoring it little by little over the last few months. The only thing stopping me now is getting the timing set properly. I had it running for a few seconds and boy did it want to fly! Can't wait!

That rascal should really fly.Be careful.
The trailer looks short; be sure the bottom is properly supported all the way to the transom.
