Hey guys, I just put a water pump kit and asside from the other thread with regards to water comming out of the drive in a weird spot the guage is reading 0. It was reading 0 before the water pump change as well. I think it may be a wiring or a sender issue? Anyone know where the sender unit is, or what wiring schematic is if I hook it up direct to the battery for testing?

There is no wiring. Where is the T for the line going forward to the gauge?

The water pressure guage only has electrical connections, it didn't appear to be a mechanical guage.
There is a couply of T fittings in various places at the back of the block, but it looked like those went to Pee holes.

I should say when I say guage I mean the guage thats in the dash.

Water pressure gauges are normally mechanical -- they work off of a line T'd into the cooling system. That line carrys water pressure forward to the gauge. I don't recall seeing one that's electrical so I probably won't be any help. Temp gauges are electrical and the sender is in the head(s).

I will have to take another look at it tonight, I could have sworn it was not a mechanical guage. Thanks though. Maybe thats whats wrong with it. :) the water line may be missing.

Check the back of the gauge again -- carefully. You should see two wires. One is ground and the other is for the light. Neither of which have anything to do with the function of the gauge. Now look for a small nipple near the center of the gauge. There should be a clear or black plastic tube connected to that fitting. If it's not there, that would account for why the gauge doesn't work, but if it were simply disconnected, your feet would be getting wet. That tube runs to the back of the boat and is connected to a similar fitting in the water jacket or as mentioned, "T'd" into the tell tale line. There is no electrics involved. Below is an example of what the hookup is on my Merc. The small tube is the water pressure feed. The big one is the tell tale.

You wouldn't happen to recognize if this is a mechanical or not? Its in a 1992 Champion. I know I won't know for sure til I get home...but you know how it is, sitting at work and the brain is stuck in a rut. :)

I thought you said it reads "0" - does it come up to 0 when you turn the key on?

Cool, thanks.
If by chance its missing, what size hose should I buy?

The size that fits the nipple on the back of the gauge. Some are a little different than others. Look to see if there's a small hose going into the powerhead where the throttle & shift cables go in. That's the most common place the hose enteres. If you find that, follow it and see where it picks up the water pressure.

Ok, found the problem the hose was there, but the guage was seized. I put some compressed air directly to the guage and nothing, sprayed a little WD40 in it and it freed up but the guage is still screwed, the needle moves but not under pressure only when you bang on the guage.
