I'm using Keener's in West Palm Beach.

They said my block, heads, and intake are all junk because of too much rust/corrosion build up. The guy showed me the block "sweating." He wiped the head gasket area off then more fluid was bubbling out of the poors. They said it could be cleaned up but I might end up with water in the oil.

The Quote:

Provide core block - 200
Core cleaned, honed with new cam bearings - 275
Refurbished heads ready to bolt on - 400.00
Press on new pistons - 60
polish piston rods - 60
poslish crank - 60
boil parts - 120

total - 1175

I assemble and buy the rest of the parts. Is this resonable? This is my first rebuild so I thought the forum could provide advise.

The Quote:

Provide core block - 200----for a regular 350 you should be able to get a core yourself wayyy cheaper
Core cleaned, honed with new cam bearings - 275
Refurbished heads ready to bolt on - 400.00Are they vortec?
Press on new pistons - 60
polish piston rods - 60Polish? better balance them too at that price
poslish crank - 60Why just polish? should be turning the crank
boil parts - 120Up above where it says core cleaned should cover all the parts

total - 1175

I assemble and buy the rest of the parts. Is this resonable? This is my first rebuild so I thought the forum could provide advise.

They need to balance all these parts too as a rotating assembly, they should have at least offered that option.
Like Haut recommended, call rapido.. he will get you out the door with a fresh rebuild for that price and they do not require a core.

Re: My 350 Rebuild Machine Quote

The 400.00 heads above are not vortec.

Guess I'll call rapido marine.

Doesn't seem Keener is being all that good.

If I go with a one-piece rear main seal (original was 2 piece) will the coupler need to be changed or anything else for that matter?

thanks..

Coupler and flywheel will have to be changed b/c the crank flange has a different bolt pattern.

I would look for a whole other engine. youre at abotu 1200$ so youre actually at the price of a complete reman/rebuilt motor from somewhere else. Not saying those guys are ripping you off. its the machine work and the labor thats killin the deal.

Re: My 350 Rebuild Machine Quote

Yup,

Rapido Marine will be the place. 1400 bucks long block already assembled. 2 piece rear main. Add 185 for better springs and cam for 300 hp the owner Raul claims. I'd like to add roller lifters, and rockers for hopefully 350 horse. But I would probably need to upgrade/change out the alpha one drive.

I'll need to look for an intake, thermostat housing, freshwater/saltwater cooling setup/conversion.

Any recomendations on the drive if I go with 300+ hp? My current drive needs the top rebuilt, it's seized.

Well u can get a new upper driver for around 700 bucks from sei. For 300+ hp your going to have to go with a bravo drive which would be pricey. Some claim the alpha can handle the hp if u apply the throttle slowly. I've been looking at converting my alpha to a bravo III and even with me doing the work i was looking at 8 to 10 grand just for parts.

You will need better flowing heads for 300+hp. The roller rockers and lifters will free up maybe 10-15hp.
I would say raul is getting you closer to 260-275 hp.

Re: My 350 Rebuild Machine Quote

personally i wouldnt even mess with it. adding that much hp requires not only more $$ for themotor but the outdrive and all the other stuff as well.
Rebuild it and be happy with it. if you want a faster boat sell this one and get a fater one. adding too much HP can also be a detriment depending on the hull design. i had a jet ski that was FAST for its day. no kidding 64-65 MPH back in 95. That may not sound liek much today but back then it was
F A S T.
Anyway no matter what the high speeds the ski reached played hell on the handling ( It was all a work in progress but 2 years later the handling was in order to be comfortable at 65 MPH. It still hooked every once in a while in rough water)Imagine going 65 MPH and then liek hitting a switch the ski would hook and do a 90* turn. No way to hang on and i am not a weakling.
Im just bringing that experience to a boat. Not sure if a boat would handle liek that jet ski did but I woudl hate to add that much power just to find out my hull isnt gonna take that much more HP pushing it or if it is is gonna make the boat handle weird

Good deal. Unless you want to build up something special this is the way to go. Actually you could probably get that same deal at your local Chevrolet dealer. It is one of there crate motors. A few years ago you could get one for $1100 from a dealer.

Don't forget about brass plugs and making sure it has the correct head gaskets.
I would be tempted to just add a fresh water cooling system as to avoid any warranty issues. It would be 6-700 well spent anyway.

Re: My 350 Rebuild Machine Quote

These look GREAT!! THANK U very much for these latest post of the NEW engines. WOW. Good thing I did not move in for the rebuilt yet.

I would need to replace the head gaskets and freeze plugs on these which is no problem for me. What else what need changing on these crate engines?

Since I have to get a new intake manifold too, can I use a fuel injection setup on the "universal 350"?

Thanks for the help!!!

I will be doing the work myself. I like getting my hands dirty. This boat is being completely restored. It is an exciting adventure and undertaking I enjoy.

Researching the fuel injection option with a new motor now.........
