1995 225 Mariner

Engine will not run over 2500 RPM. Starts fine. idles fine and goes into gear fine but as you accelerate it makes it to about 2500 RPM and won't go any higher?

No. It sounds the same. The motor will only run up to 3000 RPM and no more. Starts fine, Idles fine, goes into gear fine. Just own't run any faster than 3000 RPM

You will need to get ahold of an adjustable gap spark tester and a DVA meter.

Test the spark on all cyl's, enlarge the gap and retest, you should be able to draw a nice blue arc up to a half inch on all cyl's.

If not, why not, that's where the DVA meter proves so handy to test the stator output to determine if you have a weak stator or to move on to testing other ignition components.

check the timing advance linkage. This might be your problem. Just a thought. Good luck!
