Lack of water at telltale

It's a 2005 Merc 25 hp 2 stroke. I got into some weedy water and the water at the telltale cut way down. I pulled the lower unit, went through the water pump, blew air up the tube to the motor and even took the thermostat out but there was nothing anywhere to be found. I put it back together and it does the same thing. Just a little bit of a dribble out of the telltale and it warms up pretty fast of course. Any ideas?

If it's more than a plugged telltale and it sounds like it is you may have to remove the exhaust water jacket cover and ck. for mud of whatever has it pluged if it's not under there you will have to remove the water jacket cover on the end of the cyls.

I checked the exhaust jacket and it was clean. I'm moving to your next suggestion and from what I see, the water jacket cover on the end of the cylinders IS the head....correct?

Also, what would you recommend to use on these gaskets?

It looks like a head but it's just a cover, I don't reuse gaskets butin a pinch probably Loctites gasket sealer Sierra # 18-9070
