I own an older merc 188, lately I also have been seeing a drop in RPM, I really do not no at what RMP I should be running at but I seem to think it was around 4000. I can only get about 3200 now and when I throttle it right up the vacuum gauge drops off. Should this gauge if it is working proper be dropping off? and if it should'nt be what vacuum is it measuring, engine or is it water pump? and if I have a vacuum leak would this affect engine performance like this.

Welcome to iboats.....:)
What is the reading at idle?.....
Should be 17-21......
Under load at full throttle, it should be near zero.....
When was the last time a complete tune up was done?....
You should do a compression test......;)
