i have a johnson 150 super six series on my boat ,some times it gives me the dangest time startin i ever seen,some time it gets fire ,sometimes not. went out today with it and as usual had hard time getting it to start,hit a lick miss 3 then it started ran good for about 6 or 7 times up and down the lake ,only 1 boat on ware so i could run a little fast to blow soot out and it did good,cut it off to fish a while ,got ready to leave guess what;; it started ,rode up and down lake again saw a nice holding shady spoy cut it off ,fished ,got ready to leave ,now guess what ,the dag gone key would'nt turn the motor,the safty beep would work but no ignition.can someone give me a place to start looking for my problem, i appreciate it. thanks

90% of starter problems are bad connections. remove and clean both ends of the battery cables, so that they are shiney, also the cable from the solenoid to starter. check for nicks in the cables. and make sure the connectors are on the wire good. the cable tend to corrode from the inside out, if nicked, corroded wires, and connections, heat up and cause resistance to the follow of electricity, thus the starter doesn't get enough. you can also take jumper cable pos battery post to large post on starter. with a good connection, the engine should spin. then if the starter is good clean everything and retest. then trouble shoot solenoid. starters can be rebuit at a starter/alternator shop, much cheaper than a new one.

also unplug the big red plug and clean the contacts.
