Will a late '60/early '70 50hp lower unit fit on a 1970 60hp? Both Johnson hydroelectric shift. Don't know the exact year of the 50hp.

Re: Lower unit question

Sure would like to find out today. The guy that has it is moving out of town tomorrow. If it will fit, I'd like to buy it for a spare, as I can get it at a really good price. Thanks

Thanks, I think I will go ahead and buy it. He wants $50.00 for the entire motor, but he threw a rod going wot and the motor is locked down. It looks like a lot of parts on it will fit mine.

Re: Lower unit question

My 2 cents are you would be crazy not to get it, generally when something was changed it was internal and not a casting so it should work.
Even if it doesn't put it on ebay and make some money to find the right one, a working electric shift is a pretty rare bird.
I have an 81 Rude and I am running a lower from the mid 70's, dropped right on and haven't had any problem since.
Do it.
