Re: new boat owner things to check?
Not sure how this will look but it is my checklist for boating.
DESTINATION: __________________________ DATE: ____________
□ Drain plug installed □ Navigation charts for trip
□ Enough fuel for trip □ Weather forecast - safe
□ Float plan given to friend or relative □ Binoculars, Spotlight, camera
□ Food, Drinks □ Tools, Manuals
IN THE WATER, BEFORE BOARDING PASSENGERS OR STARTING ENGINE
□ Equipment stored and balanced □ Oil Level
□ No gas smell in engine compartment □ Gear Oil Level
□ Bilge pump check □ Battery switch Both Batteries on
□ Bilge blower on □ Radio and navigation equipment functioning
□ Engine Visual Inspection □ Navigation Lights on board
□ Steering Fluid □ Registration on board
□ Check Anchor □ Distress Flares in date
□ Close all cabin windows/hatches
PASSENGERS
□ Wearing PFDs, One for each passenger w whistle
□ Seated properly, lookout assignments
□ Safety instructions, Flairs, PFD location, Fire Extinguishers, Radio, Throw able PFD, Waste
STARTING ENGINE
□ Bilge blower on for at least four (4) minutes. □ Shore Power Disconnected
□ Gear shift in neutral position. □ Stern Drive Down/in water
□ Turn Off shore power at breaker □ Start Engine
UNDERWAY
□ Check surroundings □ Check all Gauges
END OF TRIP
□ Equipment dry and stored. □ Shore Power Circuit on/Battery Charge On
□ Electronic equipment and switches off. □ Notify person who had float plan.
□ Battery switch on Both □ Boat covered properly
□ Connect Shore Power □ If boat is out of water, drain plug removed.
