Wet Gas on line

Noticed smell of gas near gas filter. The line going from the fuel filter to the pump is wet around at the top near the smaller nut that is threaded into the larger nut on metal filter top. This line goes to the pump. I tightened the smaller nut approx. 1/16 turn to make tight. Should I replace the line or is this common?

No, it is a compression fitting & was not properly tightened.....
You need to tighten & hold the big nut & then tighten the small one...
If it was not tightened properly, normal vibration could loosen it....​

I wondered what the fitting was called. I did put a wrench on both and tightened the small one a wee bit but the big one did not move. Is the metal fuel line flared at the end? or does it work by the compression fitting doing the holding? Thanks Adm.
