I replaced the impeller and got everything back together ok. Then I got the SELOC manual in the mail. It states one should never remove the drive shaft from the gear case. Did I screw up? It went back in alright.

I should mention that the motor is a 1979 Chrysler 6hp outboard. And...what the heck kind of answer was that 1? Don't you know how to type, or do you just do pictures?

If I hold it and put pressure on it when in fwd or rev it will move to going slack in neutral. So I guess its in the right way.

Re: I removed drive shaft!

I have a clymer manual and It does not say anything about removing the drive shaft can be dangerous. Looking at the breakdown of parts it looks like the 2 piece lower unit might have a bearing that is suppose to be in contact with it. If you are able to get the lower unit back on the motor leg it should be okay. I would not worry about it. I cant figure out the three smiley faces from 1fullforce either but then again I remember my first beer. :D

Thanks eurolarva. Does your book call a carburetor by its name or a number? My SELOC uses a name for my carb, but I can't tell which one mine is because all I can find on it is a number. Do I need both books?

I have the Seloc manual, and am looking forward to using it this winter...

..to light the fire in my fireplace.

The Clymer's is EXTREMELY detailed compared to the Seloc. I even purchased the SelocOnline manual... It's just as useless. It's just way too general.

Re: I removed drive shaft!

My book only shows the blow up of three different carburetors however it does not tell which carb goes to which motor. Seems the choices are Walbro, Tillotson and MD. Do you have a question specific to the carburetor? Looking for the correct kit?

Re: I removed drive shaft!

The SELOC manual shows different Tillotson carbs labled A, B and C etc.
There was one even labeled C MD. Mine looks like the B or C. On my carb there is what I think is the date 10-78 and then a another stamping that looks like S25001 3. Maybe I'll look for the other book too.
