Two questions about 50 hp Force outboard..

First, how can I tell what year mine is- there isn't any tag under the cowl. Secondly, where exactly is the water pick-up so I can safely run it out of the lake?

gunner1, I hope this helps a little bit. On 1984-1994 25-50 HP models, the gercase is two seperate halves. There is a lower gearcase (where the propeller and propeller shaft is and) and then the upper gearcase (where the exhaust snout is bolted to. The water intake for these engines is on the upper gearcase in front of the exhaust snout.
1995-1999 40-50 hp models the gearcase is all one piece. The water inlet is above the propeller shaft on the side of the gearcase. They look like vents or louvers on both models.

yup, look like louvers like nate said look at this post , not your motor, but see what you are looking for. scroll down for the pic of the lower unit. also model should be on a sticker on the transom bracket.
