What is a good compound to protect automotive (or tractor) electrical connecti0ons from corrosion?

Currently going over a JD lawn tractor.

I use OxyGard or whatever the hardware store has on hand.
Small 2 ounce tube for a couple $, lasts for years.

Silicone based grease, also known as di-electric grease.

Do you mean when splicing new wires or with existing plugs or what?

Basically protecting plug-on electrical connectors, starter/battery connections, etc., that usually leave you with a crusty, corroded surprise, when you finally force them apart.

I found a tube Dow Corning 4 electrical insulating compound, that my old employer used to protect semi trailer pigtails, that should do the trick.

Thanks

One note on silicone based sealers. They build a mosture barrier. If mosture gets on the inside from any source, the silicone will help hold it in and could have the opposite effect of what is desired.

'Liquid Electrical Tape' is what I use. It can be used for applications below the waterline as well. Most Wal-Marts carry it in their boating or automotive section. Also, Autozone, Oreily's, and Advanced Auto carry it as well.

If you use liquid electrical tape you'll never get the connectors back apart. Regular old dielectric grease is all you need...and I imagine the Dow stuff is similar...

A note on oxyguard - it conducts. If you use it on a multipin connector you can get shorts...

Re: Protecting mobile electrical connections

Thanks for your inputs.

The "dielectric grease" type of protection was what I was looking for.

Basically to keep the contacts in plugged electrical connections, from corroding.

The Dow Corning stuff seems to do the trick.
