I have gone to three major libraries in my area looking for books on interpreting what you see on a fishfinder. My Hummingbird 565 manual isn't specific enough. I would like to know what some of the readings are that I see in the lake I cruise.

I did about a dozen different web serches and came up with nothing much more that a few simple web sites that show how the fisherfinder works.

Does anybody know of any good books I may be missing because I am not using the right search criteria?

Thanks,

What are you seeing that you don't understand?

Re: books for interpreting fishfinders

there's an excellent tutorial at www.eaglegps.com

couple things to remember:
1. only the column of pixels on the right hand edge of the screen show what's under you right now; everything else is history.
2. general rule (20? cone angle), every lit pixel represents an object inside a circle with a diameter approx 1/3 the depth and its center under the transducer. So a dot at 30 feet is somewhere within 5 feet of your transom but you don't know whether its to starboard, port, aft or directly underfoot.

The #2 general rule is kinda fuzzy - turning the sensitivity up will get returns outside the cone - but as a rule of thumb it's pretty handy.

I just bought the 575 model and the instruction book was pretty well detailed.
Its the same as the 565 except it has the quad beam transducer.

Click HERE and select download. I received this manual from a fellow Iboater 2 years ago and hopefully it is what you are looking for. It will open with Microsoft word, works and either notepad or wordpad.
