changing Rings.!!!

if i take off the head on my 1975 johnson 135hp v4 motor can i get to the edge of the rings . i was told that i may have a bad intake ring although i have 120+ compression any thoughts

No, you can't get to the rings from there, you'd have to take the engine apart to get to them, you can only see the cylinder walls, and if they look good, or not. To me, 120lbs compression, don't sound like there is a problem with the rings, but what is the comp. in the other cylinders? usually it's more important, if they're all even, or within 10lbs.

the compression is all the same. as for the intake ring im not sure i made a post a couple of days ago and some one told me it could be a bad intake ring thats causing my 4th cylinder not to ignite it has spark fuel and comp.

An intake ring?,,,lol,,, A Myth!,,, all 2cycle engines use reed valves (like one way metal petals) for the intake.

that what i thought i have rebuilt car motor before and never heard of an intake ring before i didnt know if a boat was different because it just has two rings thanks

Could have been referring to the piston ring on the intake side of your piston. Personally i doubt that with 120 psi and all even compression that this is your issue. (Just my humble opinion though) what do the rest of you think ??

In my limited knowledge I woud agree with you..if it has compression and its even, has to be something else!
