mercury blueband 50hp how old?

hi, im a first timer looking to buy a mercury blueband 50hp along with a secound hand rib could anyone give some good advise on what to look out for and also give me some idea of the age of the engine, serial no? 3238801, would really appreciate it many thanks Mark.

Those are very stout outboards...the Merc 500's, if they're sound. Check compression, wiring, lower unit, fuel lines, etc., all the usual suspects just to be sure.
