I just found and joined this site. I've owned a 1990 135 merc. since new . My oil alarm is going off intermittently for about a month now. Stopped for lunch one day for an hour , started the motor and it came on. Another day it was at the end of the day on the way back to the dock. That time restarting the motor after skiing. It seems like after its shut off and turned on again.I pulled the oil pump and plugs to turn the motor and inspect the nylon gear and it's fine.replaced the cap a few years ago and the float under the cap 2 weeks ago. The motor is getting oil and the resoivor in the motor compartment is full. It looks like the oil sensor module. Is there a test or should I just disconnect the oil injection system and mix 50:1 manually. It worked for 17 years with no problem and has 600 hours on the motor. Also if I disconnect the system, can I disconnect the oil alarm and still have the temp. alarm work? Thanks, Richard

Just to make sure you know, the on-motor reservior has to be absolutely full to the point of overflowing. Once the level drops out of the neck, it starts intermittently beep beeping. I'm assuming you're getting the beep beep beep oil alarm. Overheat is constant beeeep, and so is a warning module or alarm unit failure. Rapid beep beep beeping is usually a bad warning module and a ghostly beeping is usually a bad warning module or bad alarm unit.

I am also interested in the answer to the last question that Richard asked.

if I disconnect the system, can I disconnect the oil alarm and still have the temp. alarm work?

When I bought my 1999 Merc. 250 EFI the oil injection was already removed and the guy disconected the warning horn. Most likely because the low oil "beep..beep.beep" alarm kept going off.

So how do I eliminate the low oil alarm but still utilize the overheat alarm?

Thanks, I know all that. I just called to check on the kit from merc. to cap it off and it doesn't include the brass bushing that was in the kit from that racing company. Is that for another motor?

Is it possible to have this intermittent problem due to the resoivor cap sensor?
