anyone tell me if it is a bad weekend to go boating over labor day weekend i am pretty new to boating and a little slow at the dock loading my boat after a day on the lake should i be concerned about the amount of people at the dock i don't think i am that bad but seen alot faster usually takes me about 10 minutes to get the boat on and secure enough to pull out
the other thing is the lake doesn't allowed alcohol so hopefully the drunks won't be out but i am sure there are alot of boaters out over the long weekend will it be safe to have kids out on the tube

Well, western Pa is pretty big......
It could mean a Podunk like Franklin, to a Pittsburgh......;)
You will just have to get out there & look.....
I would not concern myself with loading, just be courteous & ready while launching......
Around here most people will help if they see ya floundering while loading.......:)

Yes it could be crowded....facing the same situation here, but I promised the kids I'd take them out before I realized it was labor day weekend. Just be safe! Makes sure everyone wears their pfd's. As for the ramp, don't sweat it. Just remember to be courteous to those waiting. If you see you're really struggling don't be afraid to ask for help. Explain that you're new to boating, and would appreciate any help someone could give. Appologize for holding up the ramp. Attitude is everything down at the dock!

thank you both i am gonna give it a shot and see how bad it is as for the pfds i am always making people put them on especially with the boat i got it is a 1963 so i am a little cautious about the water in the bilge even though it doesn't take hardly any in on its own just from people getting in from swimming and tubing

Where are you boating in Western PA?

Here in Central PA, Raystown will be a mad house on Friday afternoon through Monday about noon. But go there Monday late afternoon into the evening and it will be deserted! If I go out at all over the weekend it will be Monday afternoon/evening.

agree with aspeck, the crowds leave about mid-day on momday here too. so, either really early in the morning if you want to pull the tube or mon afternoon. around here, you wouldn't want to get on a tube in the middle of it all.

Keep them close to the boat when swimming - there will be all kinds of idiots out there that want to get as close to your boat as possible. Find a cove or some other type of cover for swimming. Will probably be too crazy for tubing and skiing until Monday afternoon.

If you decide to go, have fun, but be safe and extra careful.

Theres a blast from the past. As far as the no alcohol law on Shenango, never stopped any one when we boated there in late eighties early 90's. You just had to keep it on the "down low" and not get stupid, but we never had any trouble with the LEO there. As for the crowds it was always crowded there on the weekends. You could always by pass the lake and head over to Quaker Steak and Lube.:D:D Or just head down here, you'll have the lake to yourself. See here in Dixie Labor Day is a Yankee Holiday, he!! the kids have school here on Monday.:confused:

limited the lube has went down hill since the 90's and the weekends we have been haven't been to bad unless they have a bass tournament and you didn't know about it ahead of time but mostly been good times some stupid people but nothing out of hand so if that is the normal i guess i will try

Almost every lake that I've been out on over the labor day weekend has been a zoo. In light of that, may I make a suggestion? Take a lawn chair and a cooler full of your beverage of choice and go down to your local ramp and watch the show! You will get quite an education of what NOT to do, not to mention a few belly laughs.

Normally, we never boat on the big holidays. Too many stupid people, and too crowded. But, this week we will be doing some fishing in an electric only lake, as I am fishing another online bass tourney. I wouldn't venture too far into the main lake though.

What kind of lure do you use to catch an online bass?
