8hp merc has no top end

i just picked up a 8 hp merc. it will run all day at half throttle or less. most times it will open up for a few seconds just long enuf to get the boat up then falls on its face but never stalls. i put new plugs in it and they are a very light brown like its running lean. i have had the carb apart and it was very clean and all gaskets and lines look good. where should i go from here? thanks

Sounds like a partially clogged jet to me.

i thought that too. i had the carb apart cleaned it , blew it all out with air. still same? i will try it agian maybe i missed something.

OK cna't be the carb i have been over this thing i few times and this carb is in perfect shape , and i have some experince rebuilding carbs. i am starting to think it is a bad coil? would this do this? i allso noticed when it is cuting out it jumps around abit like its hitting on one cylinder. i am thinking one coil is over heating. So how do i check coils?

Check Fire In Plugs If Its Firing Coil Is Ok. Look For Cracks On Coil
