Hi - I have a 1987 21' Bayliner Trophy WAC, and I am starting some restoration projects. The transom looks like it was damaged, patched with a steel form placed over the transom top and outside, and then it was damaged as well. I was wondering if anybody out there can give me a ballpark figure on what it might cost to have the transom professionally repaired/rebuilt?

While the transom is out, I would also like the fuel tank inspected, and replaced if necessary (I think it may have a leak). Any ideas on the cost of that?

I know that you can't offer an accurate estimate with so little info... but I would just like a ballpark figure of what I am looking at... Any personal experiences would be great, and any info is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Doug

Re: Transom Replacement Ballpark Cost...?

The professional trades are so darn hard to figure - one minute this price - the next minute that - geez! Shooting from the hip you will probably be in the vicinity of a $800.00 to a grand. Do it yourself and save some bucks. It is labor intensive but not all that hard to do - really. Your cost about $400.00 + - a few bucks either way. Just finished a 28 footer, complete repair $1,200.00. But I did use the West System which is a little on the pricey side, but goooooooood stuff!! Just something to think about. Take a look throught this link : http://transomrepair.com/zk/ :D
