Whats involved in switching from a 25" to a 20" midsection.I noticed suzuki only made a 25" saltwater engine in '97.I use it in salt 95% of the time. Can this be done even?If so,how hard is it and what would I be looking at money wise?

if this were mine to do, i would leave motor as is and get a transom jack plate and let that make up the difference! - Cheaper by far and less total work!

My cavitation plate is 1" above v,but i have a notched transom causing prop to dig. From top of transom to notch is 19"then recedes 11" drops 8" to v's bottom.I think a 4"jackplate will be to much setback b/c boat is 20' loa ,when loaded the deck sculpers already set 3-4" above waterline when idle. All performance input that I have got says gearcase centerline should be parallel with v,this would mean prop should be 7" higher. The engine is already in highest position.

The powerhead will fit on any Suzuki V6 intermediate section, BUT...trying to find a 20" midsection will occupy many snowy winter days. Corroded bolts, t&T systems--you'll have a blast!

can't you set the cavitation plate so it is inline with the bottom of the boat ...... a different prop can also solve the problem .....

How will the 19"p effect my ability to keep the boat on plane below 2000rpm?Actually I dont know if the boat really gets on plane,I never experience the breaking-loose(letting-loose) feeling that most all other boats get when they get on plane. The engine bounces rev-limiter at 6000rpm doing 62kt's currently.I think I should be able to get 75+ knots woa, although I'm more concerned about over-all performance.

Try and borrow a 19p demo prop from a prop shop and see how it runs ..... is there no way you can get the motor so the cavitation plate is in line with the bottom of the hull?

Re: Switching '97 dt150 midsection

The cacitation plate is actually 1" above the bottom(v)now.I think,I'd like to get gear-case parallel with bottom of v,I have 11" setback that is also 8" above v bottom(notch) to help keep prop wet.Ive seen this set-up on a few bay and bass boats and they are hitting 75-80 knots with almost identical weight, loa ,beam and power.I just have never gotten that sling shoot effect coming out of hole at wot when the hull lets go of water!I think getting a 20"shaft is my only answer, the prop has to come up 7-8"to get it at that height.I"ll go to prop shop and try a 19"P and see what happens.I'd love to put a jackplate on but I think that 6" of leverage will be too much,it already sits low with 470lbs hanging on transom. The boat is 20' loa.,92" beam and 1100lbs dry(kevlar). Much thanks for the help!

I will post pictures when I get a larger hard drive,I'm afraid of loosing pictures on the memory card. Thanks, posting pictures is a great idea, that transom notch is hard to visualize.
