Re: Hoping for the best - expecting the worst

No sir...only bought the boat about 6 weeks ago. Completely new to the whole thing. Sheet metal , welding and pipe fitting is my field...managed to get to 40 years old without every changing my own oil. So I am leaning FAST as I am also way to cheap to pay anyone to do anything I think I can learn myself.

Anyway....bought the boat and used it straight away (after paying someone to replace shift bellows and lower shift cable)

And then after 6 perfect weeks out of the blue it starts running like crap.....Definitely will learn how to do a full tune up ....was just trying to get it it up and running for another few weeks before sitting down and starting from the beginning.

Re: Hoping for the best - expecting the worst

Woohoo - although frustrating, educational and a little embarrassing after checking fuel system, changing dist cap, points, wires, plugs and coil all with no joy, I finally figure out with help of a good checklist the tachometer is shorted!. Very first item : Check to see if tachometer is shorted!!!!! Disconnectded the wire from the coil to the tach and she sounds as good as new!
On the bright side I now have a pretty good grasp of my boats ignition system to take with me into the future!
Thanks for everyones help
