Two screwdrivers directly opposite of eachother in regards to the driveshaft, don't be afraid to dig them into the old housing plastic, and move them around to find the most advantagous positions. Be gentle, yet firm. You don't want to damage the aluminum housing. I think the key is to move them around and alternate back-and-forth and simultaneous prying.

you can do it that way but be sure to look for a flush plug and if you have one take it out first or you are really going to have a mess

I dont know what year or model he has, but my 88' didn't have a flush plug but a vent plug just above the tapered berring that the oil comes out when filling. I know the pump comes out hard. I used two screwdrivers and worked them back and forth. The pump goes back in hard too if you use the right o-ring around the bottom............Jerry

I would check it for water.......If you have recently changed it I wouldn't nesessarily do it again. Yes the berring and oil is right under the pump houseing. There is an o-ring that you install ( around the outside of the pump houseing ) and an inner seal that is already installed. The pump will have instructions............................Jerry
