Hey all,
Enjoy the site, Well I have been reading about stalling and poor idle. Thats my problem right now. Runs great, otherwise. Good trolling speeds, high end great. The problem is that At idle it stalls. Clicking into gear it stalls. Seems kinda like its flooding. I checked the linkage and it seems right. I havnt checked the timing, not sure how.

In alot of posts, the clean the carbs line come up alot. What is cleaning the carbs? What tools do need, chemicals, gasket sets etc...

I really want to fix this myself because our local shop has a 3-4 week wait right now, So any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks
Eric

If you are going to tackle the carbs I highly recommend you get a manual. Do you have a tach? It may just be the idle is set too low.

Welcome to Iboats!

Actually cleaning the carbs is doing a rebuild on them.Basically taking them apart cleaning out the orifices and jets.Putting in a new needle and seat.setting the float and using all new gaskets.
That could very well cure your problem and is good matainence if it has not
been done in a few years. A full tune up and setting the timing would be i good idea also.

Yeah thanks, I have a manual, I will check the Idle rpms, I thought they were at 650, I was going through the carbs in the manual last night. Is there a carb kit that comes with the needle and gaskets?

In my manual its says the only way to properly time the motor is if it is under load, Is this true? Can I just check the timing in the driveway?

Thanks again

everything comes in the kit. the reason they say under load, is because on muffs, there is no back pressure on the exhaust. the boat needs to be in the water to time, and also to fine tune the idlfe rpms. which should be done with the motor in gear. it will idle higher in neutral. every one trys to set idle in neutral, and it stalls going into gear.
