I have recently changed out the throttle and shift cable on my 100hp outboard merc. After testing the cables I found out that the true nuetral on the control box does not match up with the prop. The control box is in neutral but the prop is still locked in forward or reverse. Any ideas???

That sound like you may have the cables mix up if it worked before, if it hasn't work since you have had the boat then some one has taken the unit down and didn't align the shift shafts

Re: Old Merc

I failed to mention that the lower unit was removed as well and the water pump was replaced. We placed the control box in forward gear before removing the lower unit. When testing the cables the control box moves from reverse to neutral just fine. When moving from forward to neutral, It hangs up in forward. Is there an easy way yo align the shift shafts???

Thank you for the respose.

Re: Old Merc

I assemble them in rev but it sounds like you might have a bad rev cam, have someone hold the pawls down and see if it don't work better if it does drop the unit and replace the cam

Hi,

I don't suppose your 100 is a 1996.

If so, I have just bought one and I am looking for a user manual.

Do you know where I could get one?

Thanks.

Clembo,

I wish it was near that year but it is late 70's. I have good luck on amazon.com, for hard to find manuals. Good Luck.

Re: Old Merc

That 100hp is most likely from the 60s as Mercury did not make a 100hp model at any time in the 1970s
