Hi,
I cannot get the motor to turn over at all. Put a new battery on it and connected directly to starter and bendex turned just slightly but hardly at all. All wires look good and kill switch looks fine. The only thing different that has been replaced is the spark plugs. It has ran fine the last few times in the water. The manual said something about a fuse but cannot located fuse only circuit breaker which I reset. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Sounds like a bad starter to me. Remove the starter from the engine and try having it tested at a local Napa store.

Have you tried this? With cowl off, ignition key in "start" position, prime the fuel bulb, shifter in neutral and have someone strong wrap a strong cord around the flywheel a couple of times and pull start and do this until it sounds like it kicks in. Let me know if this did the job.

1987 50hp Force will not start

Hi Everyone,
I was on the water this weekend, motor was running really rough and then just died after about 15mins of driving along. Tried to start it and flywheel is engaging and it wants to start but will not. Seems like it is either getting too much gas or not enough. Noticed there was a lot of gas around the motor in the water. Let it sit for a while in case it was flooded still wants to start but will not. Pulled spark plugs which by the way are brand new and they seemed ok but had a little oil and gas on them. Anyways had to get someone to tow me in and I'm not sure where to go from here. Also boat was taking on a little water when I pulled the drain plug and cannot find a hole anywhere unless there is a fitting that needs to be sealed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

Did you check your compression , you may have lost a cylender. Or a coil went out. There is many reason for the motor to do this. The fuel leaking into the water is a sign your not burning fuel in one or more cylenders, as long as you have rotation the fuel pump is still pumping ,it just not getting burnt. Gotta go somewhere and out the exaust is where it would go.

Leak? Put the boat on the trailer and plug it , put some wanter in the boat and look under it to see where its comming from.

I haven't checked anything yet since I wanted to get some suggestions from people in this forum. Everyone seems to be very knowledgeable here. I will start with what you are saying and since I do have a manual I can do a lot of troubleshooting. I like that idea with putting water in it to test for a water leak. Thanks so much for your help. :)

Hi,
I feel like an idiot. Apparently it was not locked in neutral and would not turn over at all. Like I said I feel like an idiot. Now I have another problem when I went out this weekend, which I posted another thread for. Thanks so much.
