Hey I'm redoing my trailer (majic Trail) and I was wondering where my bunks should be under the boat?

My boat is a Baja 16ss it doesn't have stringers so the easy answer is not under the stringers.

Any thoughts?

Does it have chines? Between 2 chines seems correct to me.

wouldn't under the chins be stronger as they are a thicker part of the hull???:confused:

Re: Bunk placement?

You don't want to put it in direct contact with the chines, instead you want to distribute the weight around the chine area.

Re: Bunk placement?

I have seen smashed in chines from people who had them misaligned. I would fix them if I were you. Also, make sure they stick out at least 2 inches from the back of the boat. Supports the transom, where a lot of the strength is. I have seen a couple boats with a smashed area right near the transom, cause the bunk didn't extend all the way, and that is where the main structure is.

when i replace bunks, i extend the 6 inches beyond the transom, this gives me the opportunity, to shift the boat on the trailer, to distribute the tongue weight.

Re: Bunk placement?

Yeah I just moved it up on the trailer for some reason my brother had changed the winch mast so it took alittle reworking to get the boat up on the trailer a) so it had the transom supported and b) so it had some tongue weight.

I think he used it for a couple different boats and over time had changed between a couple trailers he owned but I'd like to set it up right for the boat.

What's the fun of having a boat if you can't take it with you.

My brother was really just into taking it to lake ashby down the street from his old house it's kind of our lake x around here theree is no law enforcement at all so people run some crazy fast stuff out there.

I just redid my bunks and went like 18" past the transom. It ended up working out really well for me due to my hull design, it acts as a guide.
