I have an 02' Larson with a 3.0L Volvo and one of the frost plugs on the exhaust manifold has rusted a hole in it. My mechanic has said that all the plugs should be brass and all mine are steel. He said that he does not think this is the original motor. I am not the original owner, but to my knowledge, there has been no problems with the boat before. I bought it from a dealer and they told me it was a demo from a water ski show and only had 7 hours on it. Did volvo penta motors have steel plugs or is my mechanic right?

Any replies would be great, Thanks for your help.

Ayuh,......

I don't know Why,.....
But,.....
All I've ever seen in Exhaust Manifolds is Steel Core Plugs......

Engine blocks use Brass Core Plugs.....
With the exception of the Cam plug......
