Not unless it has a return line and there is some way of shutting it off if the engine is not running. Should you have a carb issue, the pump would continue to run, pump the engine full of fuel and hydrolock it. Or, in event of a fire, the pump would continue to run and fuel the fire. Not a good idea unless safeguards are provided. Without a return line, the pump runs against pressure, gets hot and will soon fail.

Thanks Silertip, It makes sence. The reason I'm asking is because my vro pump stopped working. I have since read stuff about the wires going to it and if they can make the pump stop working. The vro is disconnected, does this kill the fuel side aswell? Thanks.

No -- fuel pump is driven by pressure/vacuum pulses from crankcase.

Re: electric fuel pump '86 gt200

I pulled the pulse line from the pump and put my fingertip over it. It felt like it had pressure/vacuum. When I hooked it back up and disconnect the fuel exit line, only the fuel in the pump exits in about two pulses, then nothing. This all started when I was finnishing hooking up the electronics and the warning buzer went off. I cut the tan wire going to the pump thinking I was alright, but never tried the motor again. After starting the motor a few days later, it ran for 1 minute then quit. My tach also is now reading 5500 at idle. Sorry for the long post, any help is great.

The wires going to the pump are for alarms & such only. They don't make the pump quit. How did you disconnect the oil side? Did you plug the oil inlet?
