Just came across this site and since i'm having major problems thought i'd reg. I have an 06 150 opti on a 192 Smokercraft ultima. Brand new out of the box just started overheating although i have good water from the discharge. After having my boat for 3 wks and talking to the Merc rep they think i got 1 of 10 engines across the country that a plate was drilled improperly during manufacture not allowing water to escape the head. never got a warning horn. it did go into idle protection. i was wondering if anybody else has had this problem?

Re: 06 opti overheating

Seems like I read a post somewhere about a 150 opti overheating, but as ago goes, so does the mind. I would tell them to fix or or replace it since it is new and apparantly still under warranty. It goes past warranty, I would not look for any helo from Mercury. I've been down that route and they never paid a dime at 13 months on my 200 hp.

Re: 06 opti overheating

I think I would try to locate the Mercury Service center at the factory and talk w/those folks. They will be the one in the end to make that decision.
I went through that w/ GM on a new truck engine. After one rebuild, they finally put an out of the new engine in the truck, which finally solved the problem. Stay with it and they will respond, be firm , but, firm.

Give your dealer a chance to fix the problem. It sounds like they are on top of the situation. That's why you have a warranty..
