I have a 1990 19.5' sea sprite, fiberglass with a mecruiser 175hp I/O. I keep it parked at my house and have kept the boat in petty good condition. It sits on a calkins single axle trailer and it is beginning to show it's age. I would like to do some improvements such as replacing the slider beds, and repaint it. The question I have is there a way I can raise and support the boat to remove the trailer for these improvements? I thought with a series of hydraulic jacks I can raise it under the hull but I am not sure of the strenght of the fiberglass and where to locate the jacks. Any advise would certainly be appreciated.

Re: Support fiberglass boat

i did my pwc bunks by having my 2x4's precut and ready to install, took it all to the lake and splashed the ski and tied it up. went up and R&Red the trailer bunks.
i painted my trailer for my boat in the back yard with the boat still on the trailer. mine was real surface rusty so had to do much grinding. then used 2+ bottles of extend(the rust stopper stuff), then rustolem rust metal primer followed by paint. did that with a brush.......came out pretty good too.......3 years laters, still aint got to much rust...sold the pwc.......

1) Adjustable boat stands.

2) Plan your work carefully. Drop the boat in the water and do repairs at the ramp parking lot. Maybe you can do a little at a time if it is a larger project. Replace bunks first and maybe you can then paint the trailer while the boat is on it????

Re: Support fiberglass boat

50- If you drive by any marina you will see boats up on cement blocks. They are supported in each rear corner and under the bow keel. To do this, drop the tongue of the trailer, and stack blocks under each rear corner. Put a 2X6 on top of each stack to contact the hull. Now lift the tongue to transfer the weight to the blocks. Now you need to jack up the bow and pumm the trailer out. Be very carful, and do not get under the boat at this point. After you have pulled th trailer out, block up the bow. It should now be stable enough to wotk on the hull, if needed.
