Hi all,

My outboard is a 1984 90 hp evinrude. A couple months ago I messed with the idle adjustment screw and the throttle linkage (unscrewed the trunnion anchor block screw and detached the cable casing from the engine throttle lever to clean up some oil.) Now my idle is rough unless I raise the fast idle lever to Fast Idle. When I took it out, it didn't have the speed it used to even when I pushed the throttle almost all the way forward. On the driveway(with the engine off), I noticed I had to move the throttle handle past the shifting point(45 degree from neutral) quite a bit before throttle lever on the engine side gets actuated(seems quite a bit of loose play), I tried to set the idle adjustment screw(it's almost all the way in now) but that didn't help much.

1. how can I fix this problem?

2. I have what I think is the OEM manual that comes in a binder(not a SELOC), under the Remote Control section, it mentioned something about a Production Remote Control and an Accessory Remote Control. How can I tell which one do I have?

any help is appreicated. thanks

Re: need help with throttle linkage

do a link n sinc, since you have messed with the linkage, then set the cables properly.

Re: need help with throttle linkage

1. how much does a shop(generally) charge for link n syn?
2. I'm fairly new to boats, is this something a newbie can do? I don't have the necessary tools yet(looks like I need at least a timing light, tach reader, wow!)
3. anything to watch for during the process?
4. can I achieve the same w/o a link n syn?

thanks

linc n sinc, puts the electrical in sinc with the carboration, so that they work together, at the same time. you have to follow the step by step process to the "T" or it don't work. if you miss a step you have to go back and start from the beginning. shop charge +- $80 per hour.
