Re: not a clue

The Johnson is the easy one. Get the model number and go to BRP's website for exploded views. Copy and paste this without the " marks "http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=E"

But the Firestone is more fun. It was made by Scott-Atwater. Go to the Antique Outboard Motor Club's Website, and you can find lots of interesting stuff about it. That would be aomci.org

...You can purchase a secondary brand manual here on iboats marine store or you can go to kencook.com and purchase an original shop manual.

Don't know anything about the firestone but the seahorse should be a relatively easy fix. The recommendation made to me (that I followed) was to get a manual, I found the Seloc manual but I'm sure there are others out thers.

Firestone is an easier motor to repair, mechanical-wise. A bit tougher to get parts for. But it will draw a bigger crowd at the launching ramp.

I got an Seloc online manual for my 1974 15 hp Johnson. It was a total waste of $20. Save some frustration and get a real manual for it.

Re: not a clue

I put rings in my 1974 15 hp and I was surprised how easy it was. A friend gave me a few tips and I was able to pull it off fairly easy. A real manual would be good but I was able to do it without one.
