A 130 weighs about 365lbs a 225 is 455. close to 1/4 of a ton.about 30% more weight. along with almost 50% more power.
I would say no way.

Lawayers love working with plaintifs who have a case against a defendent who has a set-up like you are proposing. They would clean your clock.

Re: 225 to much?

It all depends on what the boat is rated for. If it has no rating plate and you can't get one from the manufacturer then you have to go by the standard USCG formula. There are lots of 18' boats rated for 225. Or more.

As for a Gil bracket on an 18' boat, that might be a problem. The OMC style Gil bracket has about 26" - 28" (or so) set back. I'd think that would screw up the balance big time. Again, it depends on what hull design you have.

Re: 225 to much?

i have seen gil brackets that are set from 18 inchs to 36 so i sont think that will be a huge deal. i would rather mount directly to the transome there but i have a swim platform that would require cutting. maybe i be better dropping a small block in there.
