As the title says, I'm looking to repower my boat (the current info is in my sig). Friends and family that are into boating are tryin to convince me to get a big single outboard instead of twins. My boat was really designed to have twins, but I have seen a few boats like mine (same hull, different deck, ie walkaround, not a CC) that are running a single 225....the boat wieghs about 3700 lbs dry. There are other sister ships running single engine I/Os with just a 350, ie 270 ish hp...Can I get away with just a 250? Who would you recommend for an engine? I'd love a 275 or 300 Etec, but they dont exist yet. Anyone know if they are in the works?

Thanks a lot.

if you are going off shore, go back with twins. security to get home. going with a single i don't think you will be happy with performance, you are dropping Hp 33%, which would put you at minimum.

Yup. Boats designed to use twins need twins.

Security is a given but many overlook the maneuvering advantage of twins.

If it were mine I'd consider a couple of the small block 200 E-Tec's. Just as much power as the old 225 carb'd motors and use a heck of a lot less fuel. Not to mention lighter and quieter.

As for the big E-Tec's -- stay tuned........

Re: Repowering a 25' Tiara Center Console

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it.

I forgot to add this one thing.....the boat came from the factory with a set of v-4 140s, and it ran fine. Most guys repower this rig with a set of 60 degree 150s and it run great. Not a speed demon, but good. The guy who owned the boat before me wanted a lot of speed for going offshore, not to mention he was a bigger fella. Almost twice the size of me. (I'm only 5'7" 160lbs)

As for going offshore....i can see that I'll go maybe 20mi out maybe twice a year...i can exactly afford the gas to do it that much anyways, but I see your argument. But I also know for $100 a year, sea tow will come and snatch me up to 30mi out....I KNOW I'm not tryin to hit the canyons on this thing (the cayons off of LI are 50mi + out) shes a bit small for that.

Big E-tecs coming soon huh....i'll keep a look out.
