Can you put the boat you have now at a dock somewhere? Easiest way to get a boat off the trailor is to float it.

Don't know where you are but our State Parks and local reserviors have free courtecy docks. Good all day, not sure about over night. Give yours a call.

You could set up 55gal drums under the aft two, sides. Cover the drums with carpet, lower the trailer to get the aft as high as you can, place drums under then raise the trailer. Wet your bunks and secure the boat to something(tree, big rock or another car/truck) so it dosent slide off drums. Pull forward until you clear the axel then place some sort of brace to hold the bow up( a third drum with a notched 2x8 or 4x4 Under the "V" section). If your not gone too long this works well, make sure the drums are placed so they wont roll out from under the boat.

if your boat you have now, will hold water, your best bet it to find a dock to tie it up at, most place charge to have you leave you boat over night, but the cost is small $8-40 depending on size of your boat:)

It might help to know the size or your boat. Fiberglass or aluminum?

Why not block up the boat and pull the trailer out? It will take 15 cwmwnt blocks and some screp wood and a hydraulic bottle jack or two to get it up on blocks.

Bad idea. Those docks are for boarding and "unboarding" the boat. Not for someone to leave their boat there for a day. Countless times I have had the need to dock the boat but I have not been able because there are people doing just the same. Dock the boat and go to talk with no respect for other people.

I was not referring to the docks at the ramps, I meant the ones at the main park and campgrounds, etc.

Thats a lot of preasure / pull to put on the bow ring isnt it?

Hell if I dont get my 18 foot bayliner on the trailer all the way I cant use the winch to pull it up, makes me feel liek Ill pull the bow eye right through the hull.

Im interested to know of ways to load and unload a boat on dry gorund just for the hell of it. It would look cool to put my new 185 in my living room on blocks this winter lol.......:)

unloading onto the ground "can be done" if it looks like its possible with your craft, I would say with a less than 18 footer. Only problem I've run into is when the eye hook is weak. You'll pull that eye hook right out of there and then sit there wondering what next? Base your decision on information, not suggestions. If your eye hook is halfway out, don't put 2500lbs of pressure, plus, on it.

One can always pass a couple or so nylon holddown straps around the hull and winch away without any damage to the bow eye. Just go to the local hardware store and buy enough straps to string them from hook to hook around the transom up both sides to the bow and up to the winch line. Use handling lines to keep the straps at the correct height.

If you crank away with this solution the the bow won't be damaged. All that is necessary is determining where the hull winds up when the cranking is done.

I have used this on several boats, a few big water tanks, some antique cars and a bodacious big tree trunk.

Don't rely on a bad connection when you don't have to.

If the boat you are going after is just for parts, do you have access to a flatbed trailer. Winch the part boat onto it and strap it down. I know U-haul and other places like that rent these but I don't know their rates. Just something else to consider.
